About this site and Heath Haussamen

The aim of this site is to cut through the spin and counter spin that is rampant in politics and government and tell the truth about what is happening. This site is journalistic, analytical and, most important, non-partisan.

There are few news sources in Doña Ana County that thoroughly cover government and politics. After spending seven years in various jobs as a newspaper reporter and editor, I left the Las Cruces Sun-News in May 2006 to try to build this site into such a resource. I update this site regularly Monday through Friday, except on government holidays, and report on breaking news as it happens.

Since I started Heath Haussamen on New Mexico Politics, my work has been cited in Roll Call, Talking Points Memo, Crooks and Liars, the Albuquerque Journal and other publications. I’ve been quoted on National Public Radio, FoxNews.com and XM Satellite Radio and in Roll Call, CQ Politics, The Hill and the Santa Fe New Mexican. I’ve also taken part in panel discussions on the television show New Mexico in Focus.

In addition, I contribute weekly to the Diary of a Mad Voter blog published by both the Denver Post’s Politics West and the independent Web site NewWest.net. I was a regular political columnist for the Albuquerque Tribune until it ceased publication on Feb. 23 of this year and, in 2007, I wrote a series of background articles on Gov. Bill Richardson for the Santa Fe New Mexican’s Web site dedicated to coverage of his 2008 presidential run.
